Win great prizes for healthy eating habits WHITBY, ON, August 31, 2004 - Durham Region Health Department invites you to enter the Invite Us Along! contest and tell us how you get your family to eat more vegetables vegetables and fruit for a chance to win great prizes. The. contest contest is a promotion designed to encourage healthy eating and meal preparation, and offers area residents an opportunity to share their healthy eating tips. "This contest gives people a chance to share the imaginative imaginative methods they use to get their families to eat more vegetables vegetables and fruit on a daily basis," says Eleanor King, a public health nurse with the Health Department. "A healthy diet relies on nutrients from vegetables and fruit. Despite this fact, our research indicates that only 34 per cent of Durham Region residents eat five servings of vegetables and fruit a day." Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating recommends eating five to 10 servings of vegetables and fruit a day. The guide was developed to assist people in meeting daily-recommended daily-recommended servings of vegeta- bles and fruit, and to help them make good dietary choices from the four food groups. Grain products, vegetables vegetables and fruit should make up the larger part of a healthy eating plan. People should choose dark green and orange vegetables, and orange fruit more often.
