Orono Weekly Times Wednesday, November 3, 2004 Orono Atom I Exciting win Reps, split two for Major Friday night, the Orono Country Cafe Atom reps travelled travelled to Bobcaygeon to meet the Cougars. Orono dominated dominated the game and came away with a 8-2 win. Scoring his first hat trick of this season was Chris Haass, with singles going to Mitch Marchbank, Zachary Gibson, Dylan Dennis, Tyson Robinson and Warren Ball. Earning assists were Gibson(2), Patrick McKay(2), Josh Gallina(2), Matt Verkuyl(2), Michael Richards, Dennis and Marchbank. On Saturday the team travelled to Sunderland to play the Wings and suffered suffered their first loss of the season, coming up on the short side of the 6-4 score. Dennis, Robinson, Ryan Walton and Haass each scored a goal helped by Richards(2), Verkuyl, Walton and Robinson. Helping goalie Ben Hinchey were Ian Third, Jennifer Mercer, Stefan Fabricius and Tyler Meijer. Orono will play the Omemee Sharks on Friday night in Orono at 8pm. Newcastle blasted out of nowhere, leaving Fred's Autobody with a 6 - 1 loss. The Bantams played their first game on home ice on Saturday October 16. Scott Sikma and Matt Field showed some powerful stick handling, handling, and goaltenders Andrew Gilbank and Tanner Johnston were in perfect form, letting only one goal slip by. Noel Snow and Brian Knapp pounded the opponents, opponents, but newcomer Devon Courtu was the only player who could slip one into the net. The Contractors were up two goals after the second period, but the Canadian Tire team outplayed them in the third to take the win 3-2. In the first Josh Canfield opened the scoring with a breakaway, that was unassisted. unassisted. The second goal came at the midway mark of the second second period. Connor Mac- Varish shot went in giving the team a two goal lead. In the third period, goal- tender Josh Kelly could not hold the Canadian Tire team back as they scored three quick goals in the last half. Overall the Contractors play a strong game with great defensive play by Jessica Moore, Billy Qualtrough, Taylor Tyce, and Braysan Smith. D. Wood English & Western Lessons Horses Boerded The Major Plumbing Leafs won a very exciting game on Friday night against Omemee. Both teams played a defensive first period with no goals tallied. In the second Omemee went up by a pair of quick goals leading 2 - 0. The Leafs kept the pressure pressure on and made it a 2-1 game at the end of the second period with a great shot by Jarret Lane. The Leaf goalies, Daniel Benedict and Cooper Phillips split the duties in net, keeping Omemee off the board for the rest of the game. Tate Simpson of the Leafs tied it up with a beautiful rush from his defensive position. Starting from his own end he went up the boards and cut in on the Omemee net and Stutts Pharmacy Nail Bitter The Stuffs Pharmacy Novice Leafs won their third game and kept their winning streak alive on Saturday with a nail biting 2-1 victory. The strong defense played by Ryan Armstrong, Daniel Owens, Jacob Stere and Kale Stephens kept the other team at bay. Goals were scored by Tyler Trimble and Cameron Reilly. Jacob Diamond had one assist. An incredible offence was led by Jack Kingston, Mitchell Trachsler, Jimmy Chaplow, and Austin Cole. Glenn Acorn is sure to score a goal soon with an incredible 6 shots on net. With less than four minutes to play the Leafs went ahead with Ben deBoer keeping the puck in at the blue line, a quick pass to Dustin Boyd who passed it to Connor Hegan who took a quick shot that found the back of the net.
