Blitz nets anglers taking salmon illegally AURORA - Most anglers were in line, but a two-month blitz by Ministry of Natural Resour ses conservation officers officers across Greater Toronto landed 222 charges for illegal salmon fishing. The officers checked 1,591 angles during the fall salmon migration. Apart from charges, 125 warnings were issued. Charges included fishing in a sanctuary, snagging or using a hook to pierce a fish other •than in the mouth, illegal netting, netting, fishing without a licence and fishing in closed areas. Officers patrolled Oshawa, Bowmanville and Wilmot Creeks, Credit and Humber Rivers and Bronte Creek during during the months of September and October. Salmon are vulnerable during during the spawning run, because they congregate in pools at the base of dams and remain in creeks for up to one-and-a- half months.
