Orono Village Bake Shop finished regular season play in first place. On February 22nd, Orono lost the last regular season game against Detox. It was a 3-2 squeaker, Kevin Bourke scored the first unassisted. Mike Howe got the second goal, assisted by Dan Reilly. Orono started the playoffs playoffs February 27th, winning 3-0 over the Power Workers. Shane Winters _was awesome, shutting out the Power Workers. Devon Robinson opened the scoring assisted by Howe. Reilly scored the second goal, assisted by Josh Flynn. Reilly then sealed the win, with assistance by Garrett MacDonald and Andrew Fudge. Doug Deboo, Kyle Whitehead, Brien Konopka, Garrett Wood, Dan Hodgeson and Adam Wood played a great game. D.W. Playing at home on Friday night, the Leafs - were down 4-3 with under four minutes left to play, but the boys dug down deep and came away with 5-4 win. Chris Kuijpers scored the tying goal with a wonderful backhand. Ryan Brandt made a spectacular save on a Creemore breakaway, just before Webster's winning goal. Tyler Webster scored his second goal of the game with just under one minute to play to hang onto the win. Brad Olson had the other two Orono goals. On Saturday, the Leaf's, sponsored by Newcastle Funeral Home, played a very emotional game in Creemore. The Orono Leafs were up 4-2, with less than three minutes left in the game, when Creemore managed to tie the game at the 0:09 mark. The team never gave up, and battled hard to gain a point, skating to a 4-4 tie. Patrick Rempel enjoyed a great game in net, making the big saves in overtime. Webster continued his hot touch, scoring scoring two with Kuijpers and Brandon Cox chipping in with singles. Special mention to -Eddy Meester for his extra effort, preventing a possible scoring chance by the opposition. opposition. The Orono team wrapped up the series this past Sunday, winning 3-1. Cox, Meester, and Kuijpers scored for Orono and Brandt played a wonderful wonderful game between the pipes. This weekend the semifinals semifinals start against North Frontenac. Fourteen teams were in town, and only eight teams could make it to the finals on Sunday. Orono faced Spoolon from Cobourg in the first game and were victorious 4-2. In the second game, the Leafs played Wasaga Stars, and in what proved to be an exciting and challenging game, Orono came away with a 3-2 victoiy. In the third game of the day, our home team came up against a hot team from Peterborough. St. Anne's and the Orono Leafs were the only two teams undefeated in the day. Orono appeared tireless as they walked away with a 6- 0 win. The Leafs remained the only team undefeated for the day. This set up a final game at 2:00 on Sunday for the "A" Championship. Again, we faced the Wasaga Stars, and with some excellent positional play and hot goaltending, Orono Leafs were victorious 3-0.
