The injury left him feeling weak so he headed back and ended up in the hospital again, where he stayed till the war was pretty well over. At the end of the war he was back with his old platoon, just across the border into Germany, where he got sick and went back to the hospital. "They were taking up a point system in the hospital," said Pritchard. He got points for his wounds, and the fact that he'd lost his wife in childbirth back home in Newfoundland. He had sufficient points and was sent home with the 48th Highlanders, and was discharged discharged in Toronto on November 14th, 1945. "I just hope it never comes to a point where young people ever have to go again," said, Pritchard, who didn't think he would come out of the war alive. "It's certainly not a nice place to be," he stated. While the 'Thank you Canada Committee' puts on a reunion every five years, Pritchard says this will be the last one he gets to.
