Wednesday, June 8, 2005 Kendal Eagles reach semi's in provincial tournament Eagles take to the road Rodeo comes to town This weekend, the Eagles travelled to Tilsonburg for their first tournament of the year. In their first game, the lads played a strong team from Exeter. Bob Witheridge was given the chore of getting the first win. He continued his streak of allowing no unearned runs but left the game after five innings tied at three. Mike Landers another Orono native shut down Exeter for the final two innings. This left it up to Dave Trew to single in the winning run during the Eagles' last at bat. A great victory considering considering the game started at 8 AM Saturday morning. Final score Kendal 4 Exeter 3. The next opponent by virtue of their win was the neighbouring Whitby Nine. Shane Cowan pitched a complete complete game victory, his only miscue was a two run homer to Whitby. The Eagles put on one of their best offensive displays displays to date, scoring ten runs with a variety of hits and excellent base running. This victory opened the door to the semi-final game Sunday morning at 10 AM. Final score Kendal 10 Whitby 3. Kendal again got great pitching in their game against the very strong Strathroy team. Jay Carroll turned in his regular solid effort allowing only two earned runs. But the Eagles' bats took the day off as the boys were cmly able to plate one run even though they had numerous opportunities opportunities Final score Kendal 1 Strathroy 4. The road trip showed again that this team is able to compete at a provincial level and the weekend allowed the team to come together as a unit. This is important as manager manager Sharpe has a roster of almost 20 players to work into the rotation. The boys are on the road again -this week with stops in Port Hope and Cobourg. The schedule àlso shows three home games this weekend. Saturday is a double header with the afore mentioned mentioned Whitby team and on Sunday the return engagement with the Cobourg team. Well done boys.
