Qaanghm Leading the Way Ly CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON www.clarington.net 905-623-3379 MAYOR'S CORNER BUY A HOUSE! HAVE A YARDSALE! A growing concern in our community is the unnecessary, and potentially dangerous, sign clutter that appears each weekend. The signs I promote new houses for sale, yard sales and other activities. The concern is not what is promoted but where individuals are putting the I signs relative to the roadways. I know that people want to know where the I yard sales are or where they can buy fresh corn. A-frame signs (sometimes called sand- Iwich board signs) are permitted for these purposes but there are some guidelines that must be followed. Promotional/directional signs I may be displayed on Saturdays and Sundays provided they are: > Displayed on the boulevard (on the side of the road) only; • Are at least 1 metre back from the curb or 3 metres from the edge of the traveled portion of the roadway; Not within a "sight triangle"; and, i Removed no later than 8:00 AM the following Monday morning. I Real estate signs are permitted on the subject lot (the one being sold) only! These signs will be Clear Sight Triangle removed if they are left on the road allowance. Under the. Municipality's Sign Bylaw Bylaw and Road Occupancy By-law, no jsignage is permitted on/near the traveled traveled portion of the roadway or within "sight triangles." A sight triangle is [the area of visibility required on a corner to allow for the safe operation of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists | in the proximity of intersecting streets, rail lines, sidewalks, and bicycle paths. |Any sign found on the roadway or within a sight triangle will be removed. Once removed the sign is taken to the Operations Yard in Hampton where it will be kept for a maximum period of 30 days. To recover the sign you will be required to pay a fee of either $ 50.00 or the actual cost of the sign removal (whichever is greater). The Municipality destroys any sign that is left beyond the 30 day holding period. In July, the Municipality (on one weekend) removed close to 100 illegally placed signs. Aside from the visible clutter that these signs [create, they can cause unsafe driving conditions which can lead to accidents involving vehicles, bicycles and/or pedestrians. Our intension intension is not to prevent you from promoting your yard sales or whatever. whatever. We encourage you to follow these guidelines and promote your activity safely. I | encourage you to contact the Municipality's By-law Enforcement Team or the Municipal Clerk should you have any questions about where and when you can place signs to promote your activity. | PART TIME MAINTENANCE STAFF (5 Positions) I Please quote: FILE #92-05 Qualifications: Customer service skills Cleaning and janitorial abilities Previous arena and/or pool operations experience would be an asset Rate of Pav: $8.16 per hour, maximum of 24 hours per week Criminal Records Check: L Majrjr Rnint ■ DoooknPori A satisfactory, current (within last 90 days) Criminal Records Check ("CPIC") is required at the time of the interview.
