Environment Canada is forecasting a significant significant storm, the remnants of Hurricane Katrina will pass through the Great Lakes Region starting Tuesday evening and leaving the area by Wednesday. Current forecasts forecasts include the potential for 25mm of precipitation Tuesday Tuesday night and an additional 5- 10mm for Wednesday August •31 in the GRCA region. Thunderstorms associated with the remnants of Hurricane Katrina could produce produce higher local rainfall amounts. In the GRCA Watershed, watercourses are running at seasonally low levels. This will allow a significant rainfall rainfall without causing major flooding. The forecasted volumes volumes of precipitation will cre ate dangerous situations near rivers and in low-lying areas. If this area is hit with thunderstorm thunderstorm activity, it is anticipated that problematic localized flooding could be associated with this event. All rivers, streams, and ponds should be considered, dangerous throughout this period. Should thunderstorms of intense magnitude occur, please alert any children in your care of these dangers and supervise their activities.
