i 4 - Orono Weekly Times Wednesday, September 7, 2005 Labour Day weekend R.I.D.E. final results The Durham Regional Police Traffic Services Branch along with officers from all five Community Police offices held a three-day R.I.D.E. spot check last week as a part of its year-long traffic traffic initiative "Staying Alive in 2005." The Durham Regional Police Traffic Services Branch and Community Police offices are committed to safe driving education and the improved safety of the highways and roadways within Durham Region. The R.I.D.E. program started on Thursday September September 1st and concluded on Saturday September 3rd and concentrated on various locations throughout the Region with the following totals: 8,100 - vehicles were stopped by R.I.D.E. 6- people received "12 hour suspensions" for registering registering a "WARN" 4 - persons arrested for drink ing and driving 1- refusing to provide a breath sample 3 -charges were laid for possession possession of a controlled drug (marihuana). One male was charged for refusing to provide a breath sample, and had just completed completed a 90-day ADLS suspension for a recent impaired driving charge in the City of Peterborough. As a part of the DRPS commitment to road safety today marks the start of 'Operation In The Zone III", a driving safety enforcement initiative will be targeting local school and community zones for the entire week. They will be using zero tolerance tolerance towards all aggressive and unsafe driving practices. The officers will be paying particular attention to driving infractions in relation to school bus signal violations, targeting local schools. Remember Road Safety- "It Starts With You".
