IKHH I L 1 I By Tony Wood Last fall at our camp meeting, I volunteered to do something about the floor in the camp. The plan was to sweep up the 30 or 40 pieces of old linoleum now covering the tongue and groove boards, wash the floor and paint it. I put together together a crew of fishermen/volunteers fishermen/volunteers including including two grandsons, a son, a cousin and a couple of friends. To get to the camp it takes four hours on pavement, pavement, 10 minutes on water and a half hour by muddy bush trail. Needless Needless to say it's remote. There's no hydro, no phones (cells don't work) and the only other ani- • mais you see or hear have four legs. The first morning nobody was interested in renovating, they disappeared disappeared to the lake to try their luck. A couple of hours later, they returned with fish and a hunger for breakfast. After breakfast 1 headed to the lake with intentions of getting the pump working so we could have running water in the cabin. It's a gasoline gasoline powered pump and the water ends up in barrels barrels in the camp loft where gravity takes over and thus the running tA& loAt UM¥ld water. Of course before I left to do this job I told the volunteers what they needed to do to prepare the floor for painting. When you've got good volunteers it's best to give them instructions then get out of the way. By mid afternoon the floor had one coat of paint and I had finally managed to pump water and fill the barrels. Next the volunteers set up a dining tent with a table chairs and propane stove and began preparing preparing supper. As darkness closed in. we stayed in the dining tent, exchanging stories and being constantly reminded of the benefits of screens and insect sprays. The grandsons sat around listening and asking asking questions until the father/uncle said it was time for bed. Fortunately he was overruled and the boys were given the freedom freedom to go to bed when they wanted, which was about an hour before the rest of us. Watching them trying to keep their eyes from closing and act interested provided additional additional entertainment... Once again, next morning fishing came before breakfast but the grandsons and their two chaperones were headed back home. Of course this meant another mud- HARDWOOD FLOORING AUCTION Stapleton Auction Centre, Newtonville Thursday, October 6th, • 6 p.m. Selling a selection of oak, maple, bamboo, cherry, golden walnut, black walnut and engineered hardwood flooring. These two volunteers left the next day and another one arrived. With the last volunteers' departure departure and our arrival on the other side of the river I recognized a fellow camp member and his recent second wife. He was preparing to put his 4 wheeler in his boat and make his way into our camp for his second honeymoon!!! honeymoon!!! I offered to give them a boat ride and take them into camp on my Argo and told them they could have whatever bunk they wanted. I believe they had a short discussion while my back was turned and guardedly decided to take me up on the offer. The honeymoon couple couple were fairly quiet on the trail but once in camp and seeing the improvements improvements they began to loosen up. The first thing they wanted to do was go fishing or be alone, I'm not sure which, but 1 too was finally on my own. Being alone in this spot can be absolute and all consuming for anyone who appreciates nature in its' purest form. I don't believe the honeymoon couple felt the same way, LAST WORD see page 10 AUCTION SALE Saturday, October 8th • 4 p.m. Haydon Auction Barn From 401, Exit 431 at Bowmanville, north 8 miles on Hwy 57 to Cone.
