On Thursday, January 12th 2005, shortly after 11:00 p.m., officers from the Clarington Community Police Office observed a white pick-up truck in the parking lot of the Country Style doughnuts on Hwy 115. The vehicle had a broken window covered with plastic. A check of the licence plate number revealed that it had been reported stolen in Hamilton. Officers called for assis tance and followed the vehicle southbound through the town of Newcastle and down to Hwy 401, where it entered the westbound lanes. As the officers officers prepared, to stop the suspect suspect vehicle it swerved, striking striking a marked DRPS police cruiser and sped away. A pursuit pursuit was initiated and Airl, the DRPS helicopter took over from the ground units. Officers followed the suspect suspect vehicle along Hwy 401 to Port Union Road in Scarborough Scarborough where it exited and turned into a residential area. The suspect vehicle struck a parked O.P.P. cruiser as it turned onto a dead-end street. The suspect exited the vehicle and fled into a densely wood ed area near the Rouge Valley. Officers from Toronto Police, O.P.P and Durham Police searched for the suspect for two hours before he was located located by Airl and captured by the K-9 unit. One officer suffered a fractured finger when he fell in the dense bush searching for the suspect.
