This, however, is only a deferral of taxes, in that, no interest will be charged on farm property taxes until October 1. The Municipality of Clarington, at the request of our Clarington Agricultural Advisory Committee, took a much more beneficial route for the agricultural community community in an effort to reduce local farmers' actual tax burden. In my position as the Chairman of Finance for Durham Region, who has authority over setting tax policy, policy, and with the assistance of Clarington Agricultural. Advisory Committee member Gerald Browii, we reduced the tax ratio on farm properties from 25% of the residential rate to 23 1/3% of the residential rate. We will ultimately reduce this to Council has also focused on other initiatives to support our agricultural community through the work of our Clarington Agricultural Advisory Committee, including the establishment of a farmers market to promote and assist the farmers in Clarington.
