firnnn Weekly Tires - 5 Wednesday, May 3,2006 Ganaraska Forest Safety is the focus of workshop PORT HOPE - The Ganaraska Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (GRCA) is offering an Off-Road Vehicle Riding Workshop, on Saturday, April 29th, 2006 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Ganaraska Forest Centre, The safety, and information information workshop focusing on off-road motorcycles and all- terrain vehicles will be beneficial beneficial for the off-rpad vehicle operators who use the Ganaraska Forest as a venue for their recreational activity. The afternoon workshop, geared for Ganaraska Forest off-road vehicle riders will be facilitated by. Steve Weycamp of trail Tours and Dirt Bike School. The focus of the session session will be on responsible riding and include, topics such as trail etiquette, regulations and emergency measures. The Ganaraska Forest, which totals more than 4100 hectares in size, is one of the largest contiguous forests in southern Ontario. All four of Clarington's fire stations responded to the call which was made through 911 at 2:10 p.m. The blaze was brought under control at 3:46 p.m., but not before it was damaged beyond repair, according to Mark Burney of the Clarington Fire Department. The Ganaraska Forest Centre is approximately a 20- minute drive from Port Hope and Orono. From the west, exit Hwy. 115 and travel east about 10 km on Ganaraska Road 9. Turn left at the Cold Springs Camp Road sign and proceed 4 km to the forest. From the east, travel west off County Road. 28 onto Northumberland Road 9 and proceed about 2 km west of Elizabethville. Turn right at Cold Springs Camp Road and proceed 4 km into the forest. Kirby Centennial School hosted the Battle of the Books on Tuesday. Participating Participating schools included Kirby, Orono, Newtonville and Newcastle, Newcastle, entered teams who had read the prescribed prescribed list of books, then answered questions questions pertaining to the books they had read. The Battle was won by Kirby Team Valiant, Orono came in second and Newtonville came in third.
