In 2005, the Orono Community Improvement Plan (CIP) was approved by Clarington Council and the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. The main purpose of this Community Improvement Plan [CIP] is. to articulate a vision, based on an assessment of past experience and future prospects, along with a realistic "road map" of how to get there. A CIP is a comprehensive community-based planning study with no set preconceptions. preconceptions. The provincial legislation regarding CIP's allows the Municipality to provide grants and loans to private property owners owners and merchants; which is unusual as normally tax dollars can not be used in this manner. In Orono there are a number of | Main Street Merchants who have taken advantage of the grant program. lav/lve x,:;-:d r o aw OAK C(i u Nr.iv VOX: v>- P v .AWXP ; , SOL 0 V'.r Alv'j Vc'Y- F'c 1 1- • Or! rAw!MG riASKti-G ,v '?i : --V 7-îîN ^Oî.iOW ! MAY 2000 In the recently approved 2006 capital budget there were funds for this year's grant programs. In addition, there were funds for Streetscape Visualization streetscape improvements recommended as part of thé CIP; specifically, the railing on the west side of Main Street. In the CIP we had shown visualizations of plantings that could be added. In the past couple of months we have been working with a landscape architect and urban designer to determine the best way to addressing the grade change between the street level and the store entries. There are some specific issues that we want to solve and others we want to avoid. First and foremost foremost is safety, quickly followed by access, maintenance, and of great importance aesthetics. In reviewing what we could do to address all of these issues to provide a beautiful, inviting and spacious spacious sidewalk atmosphere our consultant has prepared a number of alternatives; the CIP focus group wanted to share with you the option that we found most appealing. We would your feedback feedback on it. Please review the sketches and provide your comments either by phone to Faye Langmaid at 905-623-3379 or e-mail flangmaid@clarington.net.
