Wednesday, June 21,2006 Orono Weekly Times - 7 j O'Toole Continued from page 4 has had almost three years to build a successful energy policy. So, why are we still on page one? The broken promises and lack of planning can be clearly seen in the flip-flop on coal plant closures. Valuable time and opportunities were wasted by trying to shut down 20 per cent of our generating capacity at a time when we needed more power rather than less. Given this government's record of broken broken promises on energy, there is no reason for the people of Ontario to have confidence in these latest announcements. Many of the targets introduced by this government still have absolutely no details to back them up. The Official Opposition remains committed to pressing for safe, clean, affordable and available power in Ontario. New Bill would shut down illegal street racing Oak Ridges MPP Frank Klees has tabled legislation to put the brakes on illegal street racing. There have been several recent fatalities in which street racing is alleged. It is a serious threat to public safety, and our frontline police officers must have the authority to deal with the issue. Tire Private Member's Bill would empower police to issue on-the-spot licence suspensions suspensions and vehicle impound- Don't delay, take first aid today! ments to drivers they have reason reason to believe were involved in street racing. The Bill also bans the connection of after-market nitrous oxide fuel systems on all public streets and highways. Laws protecting the public from street racing were in the process of being passed when Mr. Klees was Minister of Transportation. I am disappointed that, almost, three years later, this government government has not seen fit to toughen the laws against street racing. J.J.
