As you will recall, Ontario's PC government made . unprecedented investments to prepare for the double cohort and meet ongoing needs. This $2.6 billion commitment commitment created more than 135,000 new . student student places -thelargest capital investment in post-secondary education education since the 1960s. This is why Ontario has room to accommodate the 480,000 students will be starting classes at Ontario post-secondary campuses this week. It's the highest enrollment in Ontario history. Changes Announced For Bill 43 TheMcGiiinty govem- mènt has finally begun to realize the errors and omissions in Bill 43, its controversial new rural water legislation. Essentially, the province is agreeing to a $7 million million support program that would help to ease the impact of the legislation in rural Ontario. Ontario's farmers, rural businesses and property owners are to be commended commended for their strong advocacy on Bill 43. Repeatedly, the provincial provincial government has been told by opposition MPPs at Queen's Park and by rural communities communities in public hearings that the new water laws would cost a substantial amount of money. However, in my view, the announcement of government funding is merely an attempt to deflect criticism so that the Bill can be pushed through the Legislature. Now the Liberal, government government has admitted their legislation is flawed, they should work with - Ontario's farmers, agribusinesses, agribusinesses, municipalities municipalities and rural land-owners land-owners to address issues such as expropriation of land without compensation and fair funding for the real impacts of the Bill. There is a need for full and long-tenn sustainable sustainable finding and to remove this • government's government's heavy-handed approach that will download download provincial government government responsibilities to rural landowners and municipalities. Although rural Ontario has won some concessions, much more remains to be done. No one is against the importance of safe, clean drinking water. My view is to take the time to listen listen and to get the legislation legislation right. I will support it then.
