Following the example of many other jurisdictions, Clarington council approved a motion at Monday night's council meeting, allowing veterans with a poppy on their license plates, free parking at municipal lots and meters. Poppy plates are available to anyone who served in the Canadian Forces or Allied units during wartime, served at least three years in the Forces, or perfonned NATO service in any formal capacity. The veteran's plate program program is administered by the Ministry of Transportation, who issue poppy plates to eli- gable veterans in conjunction with the Royal Canadian Legion, who certify that.plate applicants are eligible veterans. veterans.
