With the ' resumption of the Ontario Ontario Legislature last week, Ontario's, shortage of physicians dominated Question Period. There are 1.2 million people in this province without a doctor and people are waiting for hours in emergency rooms to. see a doctor that may or may not be there. No fewer than 19 Ontario communities communities have faced severe doctor shortages in recent months that have Threatened to close emergency rooms. In the Legislature last week, Opposition Leader John Tory called on the McGuinty Liberals to stop making excuses and . start taking responsibili- . ty for the situation in Ontario's emergency rooms. Mr. Tory added that the McGuinty Liberals Liberals are currently not acting on two reports recommending changes to Ontario's emergency rooms. One of the two reports hasn't even been made public yet. The newborn newborn registration service allows new parents to not only register their child's birth, but also to apply for the baby's birth certificate and Social Insurance Number (SIN) da at the same time. The project is an initiative between ServiceCanada and ServiceOntario. The three-in-one application is available to parents who have had a baby in the past 12 months. One small problem is that parents will still have to apply to the municipality municipality for, the birth registra- ' tidin' in order- to' get ithc " process started. You can print out the birth registration registration form online at www.serviceontario.ca All three steps of the registration are expected to be paperless and available entirely online until pilot programs begin next spring. Provincial Transportation Surveys Under Way Transportation Tomorrow will be conducting conducting a key travel survey survey in municipalities throughout Central Ontario Ontario this fall. A random sample of citizens will be telephoned at home by a professional interviewer interviewer and asked to spend about 1Ô minutes answering questions. Those who are selected for the interview will receive a letter in advance. The survey runs from August to December of this year. In addition, the Ministry of Transportation will be conducting an Origin- Destination survey the week of October 2. This survey of carpool lot users will take place along Ontario provincial highways within the Greater Golden Horseshoe Horseshoe Area of Toronto.
