Mackenzie Gunn of Orono Pines' student Ontario legislature Page i By Jim Richards V ; i -, The daughter of Peter and Kim Gunn of Orono, 13 year- old Mackenzie Gunn, a grade 8 student at the Pines Senior Public School, has spent the past six weeks as a Page in the Ontario Legislature, at Queen's Park, in Toronto. She applied many months ago for one of 20 positions and was most fortunate in being selected. This has been a personal ambition ' of hers for well over a year now. While it may be a holiday from school in some peoples' minds, she leads a very busy life. She is away from home at 6 a.m. for the ride into Toronto, and her duties commence commence at 8:45 a.m. each day. Mackenzie is in the legislature legislature until about 5 p.m. every day except Friday, and does not arrive back home until 7:30 p.m. each night. On Fridays, they have an 'education 'education day' and have visited such places as the Royal Ontario Museum, the Press Room at Queen's Park, as well as taking part in physical activities like skating at City Hall and other events. In addition to this she is responsible responsible for keeping abreast of her school work: i The "first chore,^ prior, fo starting her duties was to memorize, by appearance, , name, political party, seating plan and riding, all 103 members members of the house. Her daily duties in the legislature include such things as taking notes and messages to and from the MPP's and to deliver reports and other papers to the Clerk, as well as keeping all members supplied with drink- ;• She .'has : Aeon fortunate: indeed to meet the Speaker of the House (Hon. Mr. O'Toole has also offered much in the way, of hospitality and kindness'towards kindness'towards her, and it is learning experience, and fun! She has enjoyed meeting many new friends among the Pages, and really appreciates the opportunity she has been afforded to be able to conduct conduct herself this way. Needless to say, she is quite proud of herself, as is all her family is. While looking forward to her return to school after Christmas break, Mackenzie knows she will miss her new friends and the'daily -procedures -procedures as - well."
