Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, January 22,2003 Juveniles open playoffs with a win The Dufferin Aggregate Juveniles began the first stages in this year's quest to bring home an All-Ontario Championship to Orono. After finishing the regular season undefeated in league play, the boys were looking to build on that, facing the Stirling Blues in the first round. Game One was played Sunday night in Orono. The Leafs jumped out to an early lead in this game as Jamie Rowe potted a beautiful backhand backhand from the slot for the first Orono goal. Jamie Parry made it 2-0 later in the first as he finished off a great passing play from Derek Heerschop and Phil Fracz. Mike Trotman finished out the opening period by scoring with one second left, on assists by Paul Landers and Adam Tollett. Orono kept the pressure on, scoring their fourth straight goal early in the second period as Derek Heerschop blasted a Howitzer past the Stirling goal- tender, assisted by Jamie Parry. Stirling were finally able to beat Scott Poole in goal for Orono midway through the second. second. Orono made it 5-1 in the third period as Mike Trotman potted his second marker of the game, unassisted. Stirling made it 5-2 just 8 seconds later. That was how it ended; Orono took Game One and a 1-0 series lead. Game Two is scheduled for January 27 in Stirling and Game Three will be back home in Orono on February 2. . -SW Having tun is Problast goat We may not be winning a lot of games but we're having fun. We had great success in our tournaments: A Finals in #1 and B Champions in #2. Both games this weekend weekend were very exciting and Orono Tri-Arch Education pulled out a victory in the last period of each match. Orono Won the first game 4- 3. Goals were scored by Conner Whitley, Ben deBoer, Tate Simpson and Mitchell Trachsler. The lone assist went to Mitchell VanSchyndel. Second game was a defensive battle. The Bowmanville goalie stopped many shots before Tate Simpson beat him for the only goal of the game. The defense was again led by goal- tender Brett Otterbein who recorded his 4th shutout of the x V year. The rest of the team played well and includechJacob Diamond, Kale Stephens, Christopher Austin, Lucas Crosby, Owen King, Trevor Greenwood, Ryan Armstrong, Christopher Third and Alex Bortolazzo. The next game for the Orono team is Saturday, January 26 at 8:00 am in Orono. Moms played against sons in a game just after the new year. The mom's won, 2-1 and are looking forward to a re-match sometime later in the season to prove the win was not a fluke and to allow injured Daniel Benedict to take on his mom.
