Three more points for Wooden Carousel Atoms The Wooden Carousel Atoms added a win and a tie to their record this past weekend. On Saturday, the Leafs beat King/Ritsoh Dental Clinic 4-2. Glen Murray's goal tending is improving each game and what a game he had. The Bowmanville team was able to score a goal in both the first and second period, but in the third period, the Atoms pulled together and worked wonders. Brandon Cox, Kevin Schoenmaker, Cory Weiss and Jeremy Moore, the Leafs strong defense team, worked diligently to deny Bowmanville any scoring in the third period. Offensively, Mackenzie Tyce potted Orono's first goal assisted assisted by Anthony Bortolazzo. Daniel Stavrakos blasted two goals in, assisted by Kevin Schoenmaker both times. Trevor Heming scored his goal unassisted. Wingers, Emily Owens and Briar Definney played an aggressive game. On Sunday, the team traveled to Bowmanville, with Flomation Engineering as the opponents. Brandon Cox scored the first goal assisted by Chris Hermansen and Bowmanville scored one in the first period, ending thé period 1-1. The second period Chris Hermansen scored assisted by Theo Devries and Daniel Stavrakos. Bowmanville tied it up again. Then with less than 2 minutes on the clock, Anthony Bortolazzo back- handed one in from a beautiful pass from Daniel Stavrakos. The third period, Bowmanville scored to tie the game 3-3 The team has a game Saturday and a game Sunday. Orono found themselves down 3-0 with seven minutes left to go in the game, but rallied rallied together to win the game in overtime 4-3. Corey Peters got the comeback comeback started as he scored his first goal of the year, assisted by Matt Verkuyl. Orono then pulled within one goal when Matt Verkuyl scored from a nice set up by Tyson Robinson. With one minute to go in the game, Tyson Robinson sent Orono fans into a frenzy as he tied it up with the assist given by Evan Rosseau. Early in overtime Mitch Marchbank scored the biggest goal of his young career as he capitalized on a turnover in front of the Woodville net. Orono Novices are to be con- gradulated on this impressive sweep of Woodville as they were clearly the underdogs fin ishing well behind Woodville in the standings and not beating them in regular season play. If they continue their solid play, the Orono Novice Reps should give a tough Newcastle team all they can handle in the next round. Way to work team and good luck in the next series. Schedule for the next round of playoffs should be availabe by the end of the week. -FD Juveniles Lead Stirling 2-1 The Dufferin Aggregates Juveniles dropped Game Two of their first-round playoff series against Stirling. Orono travelled to Stirling last Monday and came home empty with a 4-3 overtime loss to tie the series at one game apiece. However, Sunday night at home the boys rebounded with a stronger effort and managed to squeeze out a 4-3 victory to take the series lead. Things did not look so good for Orono as they quickly found themselves down 1-0 early in the first period. Derek Heerschop tied the game for Orono banging in a rebound in front assisted by Ryan Homes. Stirling grabbed the lead once again before the end of the period and then added another marker to take a 3-1 lead early in the second period. Orono ran into some penalty trouble, which resulted in a lack of offensive punch for a while. They pulled within one late in the second as Ryan Homes potted potted a power play goal from Lee Allin and Mark Lemieux. That was the way the game would stand as the teams headed to their rooms for intermission. Orono came out flying in the third and scored two early goals to take a 4-3 lead. Jamie Parry scored an unassisted goal on a great low point shot to tie the game and Adam Tollett played the hero as he scored the game winner from Lemieux. Both teams had many chances throughout the late stages of the game and goaltender Chris Wood made several key saves to help preserve the victory. With the win, Orono is one win away from moving on to the second round of the playoffs. playoffs. That could come as soon as Friday night as game four is scheduled for 9 p.m in Stirling.
