The sugar bushes are busy, as are the orchard owners who are finishing the pruning. The snow has melted out of the ditches leaving the winter's winter's garbage - cups, cans, bottles bottles - to be picked up. Do people live like that at home? Miss Aileen Aked of Toronto passed away last week. Miss Aked was a familiar figure in the village for many years, as she owned a home to the east. She was a patron of historical societies and the arts. Congratulations to Walter and Doreen Park, who celebrate celebrate their sixty-second wedding wedding anniversary this week. Doreen also celebrated her birthday on Sunday. Catherine Koene played the prelude, last Sunday on the piano, a change from her usual instrument, the violin. On March 23, Alyssa Stravakos showed her talent at the, piano. Rev. Norm reminded us to pray for peace in thjese difficult times. Following the service, a Thank You Lunch was held to recognize the work that goes into all our projects. A good time was had by all. Thanks to the chefs, especially Jake and Jane Koene. During the season of Lent, Tyrone and Enniskillen churches are gathering cans of soup to be distributed to The Ark and the Salvation Army Food Bank. All kinds and sizes are welcome; the pile is growing. Our church also saves Campbell soup labels complete complete with bar code, all kinds of stamps with !/4 " of the envelope left around them, glasses, hearing aids, greeting cards, pop can tabs, and A&P store tapes. All of these things are put to good use. On Wednesday, April 9th, Janice Kroft of COPE will be at the church speaking on Stress and Anxiety Attacks among middle aged and older people. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend. Tyrone UCW is sponsoring the evening. Easter is fast approaching. Holy Week services begin with a Palm Sunday Service in both Enniskillen and Tyrone at our regular times of 9:30 and 10:45. The Maundy Thursday Supper will be in Enniskillen this year beginning beginning at 6:30 p.m. Good Friday service is also in Enniskillen at 7 p.m. The Easter Sunrise service will be in Tyrone Church Garden at 6 a.m. ant there will be Easter Services in each church at the regular. times. The present present community of Newcastle was incorporated as a village in 1856. Today, the Speedy lies on the bottom of Presqu'île Bay but the significance significance of this fateful journey remains an important part of our history. The Newcastle Village and District Historical Society are hosting a presentation presentation on The Wreck of the H.M.S. Speedy by shipwreck Ed Burtt, a shipwreck finder and historian from Belleville, Ont.
