J Funeral Home Peewees snag silver The Newcastle Funeral Home Peewees came home with the silver from the Annual Easter Spartan tournament hosted by the St. Catharines Warriors! The Leafs played their hearts out. The game ended in a 1-1 tie following a five minute sudden death overtime and a final shoot-out which the Leafs lost. Orono's luck fizzles in final shoot out The big weekend for the finale came, and it was off to St. Catharines. The first game was Friday against Belmont, which ended in a tie 2-2. Tommy Meester and Tyler Johansen each scored a single. On Saturday, the team was just flying as they took on the St. Catharines Warriors, beating beating them 2-1. Tyler Armstrong and Garrett Klompmaker were the scorers for this game. The third game was on Saturday night. The Leafs battled battled the Otonabee Wolves, winning again 3-1. In the first period, the Peewees were on fire as they scored three goals and didn't let any in. Scorers were Matt Dobson, Josh McGill and Jeremy Caruana, who also had a nice assist. They were able to hang on to their lead for a win. This placed them in the top position, so they had to play St. Catharines Warriors again for the gold. In the first period, Josh McGill scored for Orono. In the second period, the Warriors scored. No one was able to pop one in the net during during the third, and so the game ended in a 1-1 tie. Then, the overtime consisted of a five-minute sudden death. The Leafs had many chances to win the game but that puck just wouldn't go into the net. Chad Moore had a beautiful breakaway, with a fast shot that was just a little wide. Josh McGill looked like he was going to save the day, but that puck just wouldn't go in the net. Tyler Johansén and Tommy Meester also had very close attempts, but to no avail. The championship was decided in a three-man shoot out. The Warriors didn't have any luck when it was a team game, but they were able to beat the Leafs in a shoot out. The Orono boys did a wonderful wonderful job coming home with the silver, they really picked up the pace and played hard. Before traveling to St. Catharines this past weekend, the boys played two exhibition games. Last Tuesday, the Peewees hosted Manvers, beating beating them 5-3 again. Matt Dobson picked up a hat trick, Tommy Meester and Jevon Staples each picked up a single point each. On Thursday evening the team traveled to Port Hope and won that game, 4-2. Garrett Klompmaker scored two, while Tyler Johansen and Tyler Armstrong each scored singles. NEWCASTLE BOWL Girls' Night Out gh Scores 150+ for March 26 BOWLER GAME GAME] ONE TWO Orono forced into third game The Orono Tri-Arch Education Minor Tykes tied one game and lost another this past week in their 'A' Championship, round against Ontario Power Generation. In the first game, Orono came up against some offence and some goal posts that they just couldn't beat. They lost 4- 2. Orono goals were scored by Jacob Diamond and Chris Austin. Assists went to Diamond and Daniel Benedict. In the second game, the Orono team got off to a great start leading 4-1. In the end OPG , f came back eventually tying the game but still forcing a third and deciding game for the championship. The Minor Tyke's final game of this two-out-of-three series against rivals OPG is scheduled for Friday, April 4th at 6:00 pm. Orono Apple Blossoms reach to be "A" champs Orono Atoms played host to Halenda's of Bowmanville on Saturday March 29th. Orono- was playing the last game of the round robin. Orono played another great game coming out on top 6-2. Goal scorers for the Orono team were Eric Easton (2), and William Kirby (1). Assists went to Rocha (2), Leblanc (2), Lane (1), Surphlis(l), and the goal- tender Patrick Leblanc with one of his many assists of the year.
