Ôrono Weekly Tièes/Wednesday, April 16,2003 - 6 Di's Pizza end season as "A" Champions NEWCASTLE BOWLING SENIORS' LEAGUE Playoff Scores 150+ Tuesday, April 15 Di's Pizzeria Bantams capped off their successful season by capturing the "A" Championship of Division 2 in the CRHL. The final playoff series was extremely close with the Orono team losing 1-0 in the first game, winning 2-1 in the second game and playing to a 0-0 draw in the final game. Because of Di's perfect 5 and 0 record in the round robin series they were awarded the championship. This concluded a remarkable come back in the second half of the season in which the team lost only once in their final 14 games. Highlights of the season included winning a tournament tournament in Duoro, and going on an 11 and 0 winning streak. The players should be congratulated congratulated for their ability to learn and demonstrate hockey skills and for their team approach to the game. Dustin Armstrong, Denis Beenen, David Gray, Sam Leggott, Wade Clark, Jamie Stevens, Andrew Fudge, Johnathen Picco and Tyler Skeleton made up the forward lines. The strong defensive lines were made up by Brock McGill, Kenny Jackson, Kevin Bourke, Jesse Rice, Matt Fuller and Michael Whelan. Awesome goal tending was provided by Michael Hisson who was a strong asset for the team between the pipes. Coach Mike Whelan would like to acknowledge the efforts of assistant coach Jim Hisson, trainer Leo Beenen, trainer Jenny Jackson and manager Angie Beenen.
