Presentation by Dr. Robert Walley of Matercare International - presented by the Catholic Women's League of St. Francis of Assisi Parish at 214 King Ave. East, Newcastle. Established by an international group of obstetricians, general practioners and midwives because of their concerns for the poor state of maternal health issues throughout the world especially in developing nations. Its primary aim is to dramatically decrease the number of women who are injured or die due to childbirth. Matercare also aims to repair the injuries of those women who have been horribly injured in childbirth, thereby enabling them to return to their families families and communities. Red Cross accepting yard sale donations The Red Cross Youth Auction Committee needs your help. They are hosting a yard sale and need the support of the community, by donating items to be sold at the yard sale. Thé deadline for donations is Friday, June 6,2003 at 4 p.m. Donations of all types will be accepted. Please show your support of the youth in your community by donating your unwanted unwanted items. The money raised will go directly into youth programs at the Red Cross. Donations can be dropped off at . the Region of Durham Branch located at' 585 Wentworth Street E., Unit 40 Oshawa. Dorinda Vollmer who was attending the annual meeting of. the Bay of Quinte Conference. Donna Scott conducted conducted the service, assisted by Audrey Kilpatrick who read the scripture passages. The soloist was Donna Morrison who sang "How Great Thou Art" accompanied by church organist Karen-Anne Kastner. On behalf of the U.C.W., Marie West made a presentation presentation to the church funds, accepted by Randy Cowan of the Board of Stewards. A presentation to the Mission and Service Fund was made by Olive Millson, accepted by Loma Fergusson of the M. & S. committee. The speaker for the service was Susan Pleasance, introduced by her aunt Bertha White.. Susan has her B.A Degree and has had positions at Northmin- ster United Church, Oshawa, also in Brantford. She is at present present an associate at St. Paul St. United Church in St. Catherines. Susan gew up in Tyrone and has many memories of visiting Orono. In her sermon, she spoke of several characters in the Bible and described their actions and conflicts, conflicts, often experienced in our lived today. Many find difficulty maintaining maintaining balance in life. God's grace and love are there to encourage and support support all people. After the service, everyone gathered in the Main Hall to enjoy lunch together and many enjoyed the opportunity to renew friendships with Susan, whose message message was greatly appreciated. appreciated.
