Peter Windolf, Landscape Architect with the Municipality of Clarington, presented a conceptual plan to the Orono Horticultural Club at their Thursday August 14th meeting during the historic blackout. Windolf was looking to the Horticultural Club for some assistance with garden maintenance maintenance once the parkette is completed. The concept, which he hopes to put out for tender this fall, includes a 50 foot by 50 foot circular flagstone deck complete with park benches, . ornamental shrubs and plants on the municipal property just north of Mercer's Garage. Plans also include a wooden staircase from the parkette down the approximate 25 foot embankment to the trail. Funding for the $31,000 project was approved in the 2001 municipal budget. Ten thousand dollars of the project cost was a gift to the trail project project from the Rutherford fami- iy- There were comments made at the Horticultural Club meeting by members who said that money would be better spent keeping the existing trail properly maintained. Solina resident Arnot Wotten filed his nomination papers with the Clerks Department on Wednesday, August 20, to run for the seat currently held by Councillor Charlie Trim. Trim was elected Ward 4 local councillor in the 1997 municipal election, and won the Ward 3 & 4 Regional Council seat in the 2000 election. election. Wotten served two terms as local councillor in his own Ward, Ward 1, from 1985 to 1991. "I've always wanted to see what made things tick at the Region," he said in a phone conversation with the Orono Times on Monday afternoon.
