^ Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, October 15,2003 - 3 jjpl jjfjtjilf ■ si pjl ! -, ImRRIUilllRnnRRnB n n milliH This week's report has little to do with "Around Home" other than the time spent in planning with others the activities activities to take place for the third annual "Walk for the Moraine" event being held on Sunday, October 19th. In the past, the annual event took place entirely out of Seneca College's King City campus of which I would consider consider north Toronto. The Clarington Chapter along with the Whitechurch- Stouffville and Hope/Hamilton chapters are pitching in with satellite walks this time around. This provides a greater opportunity opportunity for those outside of the city to become involved and here in Durham the inclusion of Clarington Chapter makes it much easier to become involved. The Clarington Chapter is offering four individual walks of which two centre out of a parking area south on old Hwy. 3 5 just west of Hwy. 115, opposite opposite the hubcap fence. The first hike from this location location takes place at 10 am, being of a 4 km 2-hour family outing, on the Bluebird Trail. If more information is required call 905-983-9715. The two further hikes for the day take place from a parking parking area 1 km north of the Village of Leskard on Leskard Road. The hikes are scheduled for 10:30 am and 2:30 pm 1.5 km (in arid out) along the Historic Swamp Road. It is quite apparent that this is somewhat of a popular walk for the citizens of the area. Work has been undertaken this past week in improving the condition of the trail. I should add at this time that the Chapter has been most successful in eliminating poison ivy along the walking trails. If you so desire the opportunity opportunity will be available in that individuals may support the Oak Ridges Moraine Land Trust. The Trust's goal is to conserve 5000 acres of environmentally environmentally sensitive land over the next year. The Land Trust has to date raised $555,000 thus securing 1,500 acres. The group making up the Clarington Chapter of the Oak Ridges Moraine Trail Association would be glad to welcome you Sunday. Make hiking part of your healthy lifestyle! Dare do the Walk of Horror? Are you afraid of the dark? If ghosts and goblins don't bother you in the least, come out for the Walk of Horror on Saturday, October 25. Listen to horrifying stories and experience experience an evening that will chill you to the bone.
