You can cheer on your local team when the All-Ontario Championship playoffs begin in the weeks ahead. Early Sunday morning, the boys of Orono Problast Pee wees met up with team Justin Barry of Bowmanville. The first goal for Orono came up early in the first period with Brandon Cox setting up Matt Puddicombe to put Orono in an early lead. Chris Hermansen, Anthony Botolazzo and Glen Murray had chances to score but could not cash in. Matt Puddicombe continued his scoring spree with a terrific back hand shot off a rebound by Jordan McDonnell. This gave Orono a two goal lead still in the first period. Bowmanville came on hard early in the second period and scored two quick goals to tie the game up. Fierce battles in the corners by Daniel Stavrakos and Adam Duke kept Bowmànville's scorers silent. Tyler Johansen was robbed by the Bowmanville goalie after receiving a breakout breakout pass from Alex Shkuratoff. Orono's goaltender Patrick Rempel just about stood on his head to keep Orono in the game. Late in the second period period on a pass back to the point from Kevin Schoenmaker, Neale Aziz fired a bullet right into Bowmanville's net; Orono was ahead again. The third period was filled with non-stop action. Bowmanville was able to score again to tie the game. The boys from Problast were able to shut down Bowmanville's scorers for the. rest of the game and came out with a tie. Good work team. byK.S. FRI. Following his hat trick in the last game, Howe netted a pair of unassisted unassisted goals against Top Vinyl. Carousel opened the scoring in the second minute of the first period, only to see the lead disappear quickly. Vinyl scored five unanswered goals in the first. Howe scored Carousel's second in the second second period and that is as close as they got on the scoreboard. On their second road game of the week, Wooden Carousel lost by shut-out to the Kinsmen Club. At home on Saturday, the Wooden Carousel took on Halenda's M&D Meats team. Halenda's opened the scoring in the first period with a pair of even strength goals and a power play goal, before Wooden Carousel got back into the game in the second period on an unassisted goal by Joshua Canfield. Matthew Howe scored a goal midway through the third period that was assisted by Brianna Robinson to bring the score to 6-2 as M&D went on for the win. Justin Patterson played great in net. Connor Macvarish and Curtis Stainton scored for Stutt's in the third period. Stutt's spent a busy day at Courtice South Arena on December 13, finishing as the 1 D finalist. Our goalie, Justin Patterson was voted MVP for the tournament with all of his hard work. In game 1, Stutt's faced Rose Valley Homes in an early morning defeat. Game 2 was against the Newcastle Stars ending in a 3- 3 tie. Cavan Willsie, Ryan Burden and Curtis Stainton were our goal scorers. Bill Qualtrough, Storm Wolla and Ryan earned assists. The nail biting finale was against the Lindsay Wild ending ending in a 2-3 defeat after two overtime periods. Connor MacVarish and Ryan scored for Orono.
