^ Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, January 7,2004 - 6 ^ Junior bowlers take home ribbons for personal bests Easton Truck Gap Major Tykes win tournament Orono's Easton Truck Caps Major Tykes started the new year , off with an impressive showing at a tournament in Norwood coming home as the 'A' Champions. In the first game they fell behind early, 2-0 against Manvers but managed to tie the game up to force overtime. In the overtime, playing 2 on 2, Orono scored to win the game 3-2. All 3 goals were scored by Connor Whitley with 3 assists to Ben deBoer. Strong goaltending by Chris Third ensured the win. In the second game Orono came out strong and won. against Lakefield, 12-3. Goals were scored by deBoer (6), Whitley (3), Jack Kingston, Chris Third and Dylan Armstrong with assists to Tyler Trimble (2)» deBoer, Trevor Butt- Middleton and Whitley. In the final game the team fell behind early to Otonabee but kicked it up a notch winning the game 9-5. The team was led by the strong goaltending of Ryan Armstrong and great defense of Chris Austin, Tyler Hutchison, Elizabeth Jackson, Jarrett Lane and Daniel Owens. Goals were scored by Whitley (5) and deBoer (4). Assists went to deBoer (4), Kingston, Whitley and Cooper Phillips. The Player of the Game for the final was Ben deBoer. The Newcastle Youth Bowling League members received their ribbons for reaching their personal high averages for October to November 2003. . Major Tykes impressive so far this season The Orono Easton Truck Caps Major Tykes finished the last couple of weeks with two wins in regular play and one loss in exhibition play, finishing finishing the first half of the season with an impressive 8 wins and 2 losses. In the exhibition game they lost 5-4 to Orono #2 after falling behind early and mak ing a strong come back. Connor Whitley had 3 goals and 1 assist, Tyler Trimble had 1 goal and Elizabeth Jackson and Ryan Armstrong had one assist each. In the second game the team resumed their winning ways with a 6-4 win. Goals were scored by Jarrett Lane, Tyler Trimble and Connor Whitley (4) all unassisted. Cooper Phillips played a strong game in net. In the final game, the offence and defense both shone. Led by goaltender Trevor Butt- Middleton and strong defense from Chris Austin, Chris Third, Dylan Armstrong, Daniel Owens and Jack Kingston, Orono won 10-1 holding the Bowmanville team to only 3 shots on goal. Connor Whitley (5), Ben deBoer (4), and Tyler Trimble scored the goals.
