Way to go, Orono! -by RE Orono's Major Plumbing Novice Rep team played some of the best hockey of their lives to capture the' 2004 Mite/Novice 'C' Division Championship at the recent Silver Stick tournament in Michigan. The Major Plumbing Novice D division Reps attended the international competition in St. Clair Shores, Michigan from January 30 to February 1. In their first game, Orono met the St. George Generals and won 8-3. They then met the West Lome Comets who came out ahead of Orono, 5-3. In the deciding game, for a trip to the finals, Orono played the Duluth, Georgia Ice Hawks and came away with a 5-2 win. Goal scorers were Matt Verkuyl (8), Patrick McKay (3), Ryan Walton (2), Dylan Dennis (2) and Chris Haass (1) . Assists went to Chris Haass (3), Ryan Walton (3), Patrick McKay (3), Matt Verkuyl (2), Jennifer Mercer (2) , Dylan Dennis (1), Mitch Marchbank (1), Ian Third (1), Josh Gallina (1) and Warren Ball (1). Helped by Patrick McKay, Matt Verkuyl sealed the deal with an empty netter, earning himself a tournament MVP title: Every team member played their heart out and the families cheered their voices hoarse. Credit goes to the coaching staff: Frank Dennis, Darryl Walton and trained Claude Gallina for coaching an excellent excellent game. Stutt's Novice see exhibition action in Lindsay Stutt's Pharmacy Novice played an exciting weekend of hockey at home. Friday night featured an exhibition game against Lindsay Wild which Stutt's won, 2-1. Justin Patterson worked hard as Stutt's goalie. Cavan Willsie and Curtis Stainton scored for Stutt's. On Saturday, Stutt's Pharmacy Novice played an exciting game against Newcastle with a 2-2 tie. Brittany St. James scored twice for Stutt's. Curtis and Billy Qualtrough earned the assists.
