Abana Springs, c.1910 Details
Frederick Grabbe established Libertyville Crystal Spring Water Company in Libertyville in the 1880s. The bottled water was marketed as Abana Spring - named after an ancient river near Damascus.

The original well was located on Newberry Avenue. When this well dried up some time after the turn of the century, a second well was struck on Fourth Avenue, a half block south of Church Street. The 1912 Sanborn Fire Insurance Map also shows an Abana building on Park Place at Maple Avenue. It is believed that this postcard shows the Park Place location. The bottling company went out of business with Grabbe's death in 1915.
