Put it down in your memorandum book that the Lake County Fair at Libertyville comes otf Sept. 14 to IT inclusive; that is it begins two weeks from next Tuesday. There are sereral things to be considered. First. it has a history. The fair as sociation was organized in [853; that was H years ago. Lake coun- ty was not Very populous or Very rich then. but it had lots of ambition. Being settled largely by emigrants from New England and New York. it was full of Yankee grit and pluck, and they not only tame out here to grow up with the country. but to make the country grow up with them; and after their own homes had been built, with “puncheon” floors. a meeting house provided for and a school house erected, they wanted a fair~~that dear old successful “coun- ty show" of the homeland~and so they organized the fair in 1853. There is history for you as is his- tory Second, this fair has been success~ ful. It has had its ups and downs, like everything else out west, but it has survived them all. till now it stands among the few county organ- izations phenomenal for their suc- cesses. Lake county stands well nigh. if not at the head of Illinois fairs in this respect. Every loyal Lake Qounty citizen is proud of his successful county fair. He can go anywhere among Illinois’ 102 county fairs and hold up his head as high as the governor’s. The word “suc- cess" is written all over it in letters so big you can read them from any point in the county. Third: the society lwlieves in 100 unit dollars and no credit. That is it pays all its bills in full and pays promptly. lf yuu win a premium of $1.5“ on the biggest “yaller pun- kin," you will get a dollar and a half in clean cash H'ery time. Finally, no one has been known these many ymlrs to go. away dissat» lSllHl. whether he gets a premium or not. Everything is so fair, hon- est and above-hoard that all are sat- isfied. With wheat at $1.00, corn, oats, potatoes and milk the same, ovuryhody is goingto the fair, and We shall go. so as not to have to stay at homv ulmw. You will go, of course.
