RAVINIA ITEHS. THE HIGHLAND PARK NEWS. For the benefit of out~weet patrons of the high school we suggest the down east way of doing things in the rural districts where the pupils are somewhat scattered. They have an old horse and two or thmoaeated express wagon fitted up for this spe- cial service in the care of one of the good and responsible boys, that goes alongthe main thoroughfare sad picks up the pupils, who all come out onto the main road. Of course some of them have a little distance to walk. But gathering at regular points at fixed hours along this main road they are easily and quickly picked up and driven to school. Of course every pupil is at his or her station on time, as the bus does not wait for Jane to comb her hair or for John to milk the old brindle cow before being ready. If they are late they get there the best way they can, and one or two experiences cures any tendency to tardiness on their part. This scheme secures the presence of the pupils at school all the time, good and bad weather alike. and more than that, it gets them to school fresh and ready for" study, not all jaded out by a three or four mile tramp. We presume the West Deer- fielders have already lighted on this scheme; if not, we will inform them it did not originate in Vâ€"â€"~â€", but in Maine, whence George B. Cummings came, in the days of old lung Hyne. One thing which helped the enter- prise a'ong, no doubt, was the' opâ€" portunity which it gave the pupiis to chew gum on the way. a privilege which every Mainiac prizes very highly.
