_--@ _ ~Emmerson and his supporters are doing everything possible in _ Stratton's behalt. The governor and his supporters are doing _ everything possible in behalf of Gentzel, the Chicago candidate. f How can Bill Stratton's friends consistently vote for Governor evils. Between Smith and Brennan, they decided that Smith was not as bad as the latter. It is with joy, therefore, that they hail the cauduhcy of Otis Glenn, realizing that at last they have a man who will be a worthy representative--of the state. " Governor Small's fellows don't crow about Len's appointment of men and women in Lake county to minor positions, just places on the state salary list at taxpayers' burden, with nd service what-- ever rendered. They're mighty quiet about that, in fact tried to frustrate efforts to obtain from state records at Springfield the names and amount paid monthly to Lake county men and women whose allegiance t6 the governor is purchased with monthly sti-- pends of $100, $125 and $150 each. That's a crime those secretly posing as game wardens (rabbit shepherds) and those secretly on the payroll in the insurance and other state departments are just as anxious to cover up as are the Small leaders who bought them. % The talk that Frank L. Smith was the choice of the people of the state of Illinois for the United States senate is being attacked by many as false. Voters who put a cross in front of Smith's name declare that they did it because Smith was the lesser of two SENSING the inadvisability of attempting Lake.county rally meetings in behalf of Governor Small, 'his tocal managers plan a caravan tour with entertariners and musicians attached. -- Street gatherings are expected. There it will be difficult to distinguish between applause for the entertainers and enthusiasm for the governor. Payrollers have been warned to join the caravan and lend their presence at the street gatherings. z> They'll be there AS GOVERNOR SMALL might sa you hold, it's the INTEREST vyou take." THE SMALL FELLOWS crow a lot about the governor's generosity in appointing four Lake county men to fat major posi-- tions. Of course most of the crowing emanates with beneficiaries of those fat positions, but it's sort of an argitment, ahy way. -- But I'll concedée Governor Small has been generous in the dis-- tribution of taxpayers' money through appointment of Lake coun-- ty men and women to major and secret positions and that it is only fair the ashamed secret appointees and bragging major ap-- pointees reciprocate by supporting the xovernor.. Theyowe it to him. %% __-- FHEY'RE BOMBING opponents of Small, Thompson and Crowe in Chicago, and trying to make*the public believe victims of the outrages are the real instigators. ¥ou'd think Thompson and Crowe too smart to advance such a ridiculous theory. \ ' "I am confident that it will not continue. Let the slogan 'Bring back the good name of Illinois.' " Justice Clyde E. Stone of the state Supreme court, who won his seat on the tribunal in spite of the opposition of Small and his political machine, has called on the voters of the state to oust Small and bring back the good name of Illinois. "With her con-- tributions to education, patriotism and religion outranked by none in the Union, the state of Lincoln, Grant and Logan is heralded throughout the country as a sort of 'No man's land'." Now is the time to cleanse the record. But if you incline to feel a bit sorry for Jim and Billy, Lew and George, don't let that sympathy influence your determination to belp redeem Illinois., Remember they've fared nicely and will be able to get by even though Governor Small goes down to defeat. Lew with his rabbit shepherd compensation, Billy with his com-- merce commission pickings and George with his cash in hand are ;ptite well taken care of--they'll get along. Surely we're all kind of sorry for them, but not to the extent of voting further exploita-- tion of Illinois by the administration that contributes to their financial welfare. They're nice fellows, if expensive, and should not be too severely condemned. But they're all caught up--paid in full, and it is time they quit blocking our political salvation. BE. SUN ABUSES Bill Stratton one day and the next im-- his friends to vote for Governor Small, who is supporting zel, Stratton's opponent. a : -- _ "The taxes collected from the people are being used to buy political support, and we are asked not only to indorse this condi-- tion but to continue it. 'If that condition continues we have only ourselves to blame. GENERAL JIM WELCH, Captain Billy Smith, Lieutenant George Bairstow and Corporal Lew Hendee have all but desisted. It has been a week of inactivity, there seemingly being nothing they can do to stop the rout of Small's forces. From all sections of the county come reports of Emmerson gains. Even the pay: rollers are threatening desertion. > "One has only to cross her borders to learn how her reputation has fallen among her sister states. t "Men who have transacted business with the state have been told their private interests will be greatly benefited if they support the administration and their business with the state will be taken away if they do not. "Despite settlement by repayment in part of large sums of the people's money illegally withheld, we are told that we must con-- tinue in office this administration if we would build roads in Iili-- nois. Despite the passage by a servile majority in the legislature of an amendment to the quo warranto act that deprives the people of the right to oust an unfaithful officer, an amendment that will go down in the history of Illinois as the most disgraceful and un-- justified legislation ever enacted in this state, we hear cries of *persecution' and a comparison with the life of Lincoln is drawn. "Illinois, the third state in the Union, with her contributions to education, patriotism, and religion outranked by none, the state of Lincoln, Grant and Logan, is heralded throughout the Union as a sort of 'No Man's Land.' , oUST SMALL AND CLEANSE STATE 3 Justice Clyde E.
