A. Brune and the sponge squad and surrender-- ed his sedan and load just south of the Wisconsin line after two convine-- ing bullets had whizzed past his wor-- ried countenance. The prize was sighted on Milwau-- kee road near 29th street Zion. Brune and his men gave instant pursuit and the two cars floundered through im-- monse snow drifts for two miles be-- fore the raiders realized their prey would escape over the-- Wisconsin line unless drastic methods were used. A volley was discharged over the speeding sedan, and the driver, in fear of his life, made immediate sur-- render. Less than an hour later he had paid a fine of $400 and costs before a Waukegar 'justice, and the wom-- an who had accompanied him on the trip, had been released. -- Th Joad, at the regular pint retail price, would have brought $1,568 from bootleggers patrons, it is estimated. The prize, according to Brune, con-- sisted of alcohol and choice moon-- shine, " Sponge Squad, After Two Mile Sedan With 98 Gallon Load. The dry dgents had been hiding at 29th street and Milwaukee road on a vague trip that--liquor was to be run through, A man, accompanied by a woman in a Peerless sedan wonld make up the load, it was said. One car, stopped early in the evening, re-- vealednothing. The big sedan came weaving through the drifts a few mo-- ments later. In spite of the size of the load it did not show on the springs of the automobile as it usu-- ally does. Brune believes that spe-- cial springs were being used on the machine to thwart efforts of dry agents. 3 e h e & Duqu isto, accoridng to Brune, had been coming from Chicago and was on the route to Racine. -- C T & T Co to M. 1.
