flke No asv Governor Len Smaill paid a visit to VY OOGstock on »uay Duit Lake County people realizing that possibly he would not come qfintothh.ecfionofdmoo\mtydufiagthcmpdgnmud out in large delegations at the meeting. -- f j 'They expressed to the governor firm belief in his policy in building hard roads in this state. Over 100 from Lake County attended the meeting and voiced their approval with the McHenry County visitors at the various statements the governor made when he replied to the attacks made upon him by the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago News and Attorney General Brundage. o s% ' _ Every time the governor made reference to these forces which have been trying to undermine his administration the audience broke forth into vociferous hand--clapping, showing that they are with him to a man in his campaign to fight those interests. McHenry County was one of the sixteen counties in the state that supported Governor Small in the last primary and judging by the expressions heard there on Friday it is going to join Lake "County in the present campaign and give the governor a support which he will be very proud of. f 3 And when the governor, at the conclusion of his address told whereby the state automobile licenses are to pay for this work. the voters present that he was going to go ahead and conduct an honest, vigorous and business--like administration despite the op-- position of these big forces, that he would not bend to their --de-- mands or to their way of thinking; and when the audiencte heard him tell how the Tribune attacked Abraham Lincoln sixty years i"ne ago and has continued its policy of villification against all those who despite their claim to dictatorship in this state, the crowd cheered and cheered and showed by --every --expression . that they realized the PERSECUTIONrwhich the Chicago papers had been conducting against the state's executive. j _ _A It was a meeting which should go down in the present cam-- paign as one of the"most enthusiastic that has been held. Sugely the voters of McHenry and Lake County present at this meeting showed how they feel towards Governor Small's road program and showed that they are with him in trying to carry out the plan The governor urged people to remember that every person who goes to the polls at the next election and does NOT vote ON the road program is counting his vote AGAINST this program. In other words the majority of ALL THE VOTES CAST must be secured in .order that the plan carry and therefore all votes cast for other offices that are not cast in favor of the road program will be counted against it. ' yariiag --_ Mark our prediction: The primary campaign for governor will not be one wherein the antx!mul\ candidate, Senator Essington, will make a fight on his OWN name or record. It will be one wherein the whole campaign for his success will be one of "ripping into Governor Small" with no quarter at any time. Essington will} not be the issue as--against Small. The anti--Small gang will just have him as a means for carrying on its propoganda, of willi-- fying the governor and making the senator a side--issue whose name will seldom be heard in the campaign which is to follow. . * ibertyville Independent .
