They Forget To Bring Key To the Fire Barn and the Chief is Missing. Constable Conrad A. Brune, who isn't supposed to know much aborat fires, got the chance of a lifetime the other night to witness a department in action. t It is the old story re--explained. Brune had taken prisoners in his booze raids in Fox Laker He wanted to lcdse them in the Fox Lake jail, The village marshal corld not be found. No other policemen could be located. -- 2 . SO THEY HAVE A FINE TIME He rang a bell. It was the fire gong. Stringing along at intervails came the men of the department. By the time that the last one had'arrived there were eight men in all without the chief or--assistant being present. They were all set for the blaze when one spoke up. . "Where's the key to the barns?" It was an important question. There wasn't a ;3 in the crowd, and the barns stayed locked. Then they turn-- ed on Brune and became indignant because he had spoiled their repose. He asked, in turn, where the--village marshal could be located. 7 _ They didn't know. He asked for an assistant chief. 'They didn't have one. He inquired for: a --constable. That was & luxury that Fox Lake wasn't troubled with, he found. -- He asked if it were possible to lodge a prisoner in jail there. They replied that it wasn't. "And,." says Brune, "contrary to re-- ports I wasn't locked in the Fox Lake jail for bringing out the department. That was the ~only place in town I wanted to get in, and I found that was impossible. and Theresia. Krapf. --»§10. $2. Lot 5, blk 3, Park .gzég to w@ C. A. Newcomb Jr. to M. D. Glas ser. Deed $2200.
