HeritageLost_Panels_v2 MODEL SCHOOL - LYDIA PINKHAM BUILDING HERITAGE LOST This solid looking building started as a public school in 1874 and was soon named as one of Egerton Ryerson's six "model schools" for teacher training. Once it was no longer needed as a school, various businesses moved in, notably the famous Lydia Pinkham Medicine Co. which used it as their Canadian headquarters. In 1998, after being vacant for a few years, "its structural integrity was considered beyond repair" (Cobourg Daily Star) and it was demolished to provide additional parking for the neighbouring car dealership. Of the original six Ryerson model schools, only the one in Ottawa remains.
