HeritageLost_Panels_v2 HERITAGE LOST WHITEHALL Even though it was one of the earliest surviving homes in Cobourg, still in fine shape and with a history of prominent owners, in 2001 Whitehall suered the indignity of being dismantled and shipped to a distant, more welcoming community. Zaccheus Burnham bought the property in 1805 and it remained in the family until 1873. Zaccheus had an interest in architecture and may well have designed his home which shows a mixture of design elements: Regency (square form with hipped roof), Georgian (five-bay facade) and Neo-Classical (slender columns). Doug Sifton (Sifton-Cook Heritage Centre) was one of those leading the charge to halt the threatened removal of Whitehall. One of Doug's proposals was to establishing a county museum at the location, run by a private foundation. Instead we have a town museum here, run by the Cobourg Museum Foundation and named in his memory. So all was not lost!
