Trinity_Panel TRINITY METHODIST (UNITED) CHURCH The story of the local Methodist/United Church in this area begins in 1820 with the building of a small chapel just north of the town, at Hull's Corners. While the chapel is long gone, the burial ground remains, now within the town limits. 1820 Soon, a small wooden frame chapel, about 30' x 40' is erected near the town centre, at the corner of Division and Chapel Streets.1824 With impetus from the success of Upper Canada Academy which had opened in 1836 and is now a College, the small frame chapel is replaced by a handsome new brick building, dedicated as "Wesleyan Church". "The style is the ancient Gothic...of the best white brick with stone dressings, the tower and spire 130 feet high, terminating with a hand with a finger, pointing up to Him..." 1853 A major renovation adds transepts, meaning that, unlike St. Peter's, this church is now both eastward facing and cruciform. The interior is converted to an auditorium style more typical of denominations of a congregational leaning. 1900 An impressive Christian Education Centre is added to the south of the church. This allows for the sale of the nearby church hall which is taken over by the Town for its library. 1960 Hull's Corner Chapel Trinity c1952 Woodwork Interior Trinity Nave Trinity Education Centre
