Calvary_Panel CALVARY BAPTIST CHURCH Although a relatively small denomination in Canada, the local Episcopalian Methodists build an impressive early church on King Street A Romanesque-Revival building with a prominent o�-centre tower, arched windows, and a heavy raised foundation, it was clearly di�erent from the two other major King Street churches. 1878 A congregation of Baptists, which had been meeting in temporary quarters at Division and King Streets, build their own church down the road at King and McGill Streets. 1886 The Episcopalian and the Division Street Methodists unite and the church on King Street becomes vacant.1897 The Baptists move into this much more substantial building.1902 Lightning strikes the steeple which burns and is not replaced1942 Interior renovations replace the two aisles with a single centre aisle.1960 A west wing is added with a new arched entrance and the raised foundation stone continued along the side.
