- Stuart Hooey Sr. first established a grocery store in Cobourg in 1847. Two of his sons, William (b1852) and Stuart Jr. (b1856) then went on to become merchants in their own right, following in their father's footsteps. Records indicate that these men had some groceries but mainly sold wines and liquors.
