Description
On snowy, blustery February 25th the "Lunch Bunch Hunters" WI group trudged through snow to enter the Vernon Museum for their photoshoot. Captain Norma McNaughton drove as did country inhabitant member Laura Acres. Helen McDonald, another WI member walked 4 blocks. Non-member Mary Raats, our other country lady, was absent because of the snow.

Since we are all Vernonites or attend functions in our small hamlet, we chose to publicize a trophy that is displayed in our Vernon Museum.

In 1958, the Osgoode women's Institute presented this small trophy to the winner of a choral speaking competition from Metcalfe Public School. Choral Speaking is defined to be when "All the members of the group speak in unison, as a chorus, and interact with one another as they perform."
The inscription on the trophy read:
Choral Speaking
Metcalfe P. S.
Donated by Osgoode W.I.
1958

Our Vernon WI, also sponsored a Public Speaking competition around this time. One member declined receiving the usual fee of $6 that was charged for a delegate to attend the Area Convention and asked that this money be used for the Public Speaking Festival.
On November 10th,1960, six local Public Schools competed in the basement of the Vernon Presbyterian Church. On November 18th, finals were held in the Baptist Church, across the road. The Vernon WI catered their lunch and awarded $10 to the Junior and Senior winners. Other sponsors donated trophies to the first and second place winners.

We’re looking forward to Clue #2.
