- The Hill was the home of William Weller in the 1850s. It was often used as a stopping place for the stagecoaches.

- What is now known as Villa St. Joseph, on 445 Monk St., was known as The Hill and occupied one of the finest locations in Cobourg, a point of land jutting out into Lake Onatio. It was built in 1844 for Winkworth Tremaine and later became the home of William Weller, the famous stage-coach operator and first mayor of Cobourg (1850). William Weller founded his stage coach line in the 1820s and moved to Cobourg around 1830. He was a very prominent figure in Cobourg life, was married twice and had 22 children. It then became the summer home of Nellie Grant Sartoris, the daughter of President Ulysses S. Grant.
