- Description
- The first settler of Cobourg is believed to have been Eliud Nickerson, (1798) who had a crude log hut near present day King and Division Street, approximately where this photograph indicates.
- Notes
- Old records indicate the cabin stood near the northwest corner, but not for long as the Crown lands granted to Nickerson were actually on the other side of Division, comprising all the land from Division to College between the lake shore and Elgin Street.
- Inscriptions
- 1931 series. At or near the site shown in this photograph is the place believed to be that where the first settler in Cobourg settled in a log hut in 1798. (See "Cobourg, 1798-1948," p.7-9, for details)
