- Description
- This historic building was erected between 1855 and 1856.
- Notes
- The Gas Works was Cobourg's oldest public utility, this building being constructed in 1855. Then, till the 1890s the lighting of the town streets was all gas. Even as electric slowly came into existence, many street lights continued till just before World War 1. Some of the homes still used gas, but on September 8, 1938 the public was notifided that the Gas Works would close on December 31 of that year. The building was then occupied by Curtis Beauty Products Limited.
