- Dr. William King of Brighton was convicted of murdering his wife, Sarah Anne by poisoning her with arsenic. He was hanged on June 9, 1859 at the courhouse where the Golden Plough now stands.
- Inscriptions
- Something Unique in Ropes. Relatives of the murdered Mrs. King of Brighton, and others who rejoiced to see justice done, cut up the hangman's rope for souvenirs. This piece has been given to E.C. Guillet.
