Peter Comego
Alderville, Feb 7 – the death occurred at his home on Thursday Feb. 3, of Mr. Peter Comego in his 70th year after a lengthy illness.
He was a veteran of the Great War, enlisting in August, 1914, and went overseas with the 21st Battalion, returning in 1919. He was a sharpshooters on Sentry duty with a record of 69 German sharpshooters to his credit and was rewarded with an array of medals which adorned his breast as he lay in his flag-draped casket.
The funeral was held on Sunday afternoon in the United Church. Conducted by Rev. L W. Scott. The Hymns, “Jesus Lover of My Soul” “Nearer My God To Thee” and “Abide With Me” were sung. An anthem, “Does Jesus Care?” was sung by the choir.
A wreath from the Canadian Legion at Campbellford and a spray from Shirley and Stewart Comego were received.
The pall-bearers were messrs Norman Marsden, Henry Comego, Moses Smoke, Jr., Jack Tobico. Alex Comego and Bill Bigwin interment was in Alderville Cemetery.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Herman Wendt, of Lindsay and Mrs Archie Smith of Fenella and one brother Mr. Henry Comego of Alderville.
