A surprise 80th birthday party was given on Sunday, August 10th for Mrs. Jean Russell now residing in Creighton Heights in Cobourg. Mrs. Russell and her husband Foster are former residents of Coldwater. They came to the village in 1941 when they purchased the newspaper The Coldwater Planet. Their printing office was on the main street in the store between the telephone office and Home Hardware. Their home was the one now owned by Alan Hill on Grey Street. Mrs. Russell taught singing to the Presbyterian Young People's group at her home once a week. The party arranged by her husband and son Robin was held in the garden and was attended by over 150 guests. Driving down from Coldwater for the celebration were Kathleen, Roy and Carlton Galbraith, and Jean Oakley.
