J. Geo. Hodgins Esq.

Toronto

Dear Sir, -

The only information I can obtain with regard to the establishment of a Normal School in Cobourg between the years 1791 to 1876 is as follows:

Some time previous to the year 1836, a Grammar School, called the Cobourg Grammar School, was built on the spot where the C. C. I. now stand. The first Principal, so far as I can learn, was a Mr. Croftow[?], of Trinity University, Dublin. The next was Mr. Hudspeth from Edinburgh, and after him Mr. Barrow who was once Principal of Upper Canada College.

Yours respectfully,
G. W. Mitchell
See. C. C. I. B.
